This extremely crisp lettuce comes to us from Tentino in Northern Italy. The loose head is green on the inside, but shifts to a beautiful deep red on the leaf edges. It is slightly bitter as the Italians enjoy it, and is very resistant to blights and diseases.
Sow from March onward in seedling trays. Transplant seedlings at the 3–5 leaf stage into the open field from April to May at a distance of 30 ✕ 30 cm. Intercropping with other vegetables works exceptionally well.
